Ministry “Stigmata”

MINISTRY “Stigmata”
Directors: Eric Zimmerman and Ben Stokes

This is one of the first music videos directed by Eric Zimmerman and Ben Stokes for Ministry (from “Land of Rape and Honey”). Shot on black and white 16mm film with hand-cranked cameras in the industrial wastelands of Chicago, and using found footage and medical slides, this video established a visceral aesthetic that subverted the contrived music videos of the mid-to-late 80’s. It also helped establish a harder new image for the band. The Daily News wrote the “images manage to pummel in a style all their own.” The industry woke up and took notice, inspiring bands like NIN, Soundgarden, and Public Enemy to collab with this team as well. This video has since became a landmark of industrial music.
